Letters to the Editor: Carlsbad Lifehouse to host fundraiser

Carlsbad Lifehouse provides mental health and substance abuse services and has expanded significantly in 2022 to become a leader in the region in these services.

Lifehouse has expanded its capacity at the Villa de Esperanza program at 1900 Westridge, which provides 30 days of intensive residential treatment program. Since Lifehouse took over the treatment program and established it at the new facility on Westridge, the capacity has increased from 16 patients to as many as 32 patients, thus being able to serve twice as many people in need in our community.

Lifehouse opened a new, state approved detoxification facility in July 2022 at its 1900 Westridge location. This enables people seeking to enter into rehabilitation to be able to safely detoxify under a medically monitored program from alcohol, fentanyl and certain other drugs before entering into a rehabilitation program. It is one of two facilities in eastern New Mexico affording this care and service.

Lifehouse will soon be opening a sober living home in Artesia. In conjunction with The Bridge, an Artesia organization committed to seeing recovering addicts be successful, Lifehouse is opening a men’s sober living house in October 2022 for men coming out of rehabilitation and seeking a faith-based, safe and productive environment that leads to reintegration of the residents into community. The new men’s house will house eight men in recovery and will be located at 808 W Grand Street in Artesia. An open house will be held Thursday, Oct. 6 at the house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the public is invited.

Another new living home for mothers with children is planned to be built and opened in 2023. The three present sober living homes operated by Lifehouse are generally full and have more applications than capacity at present. This will help fulfill the purpose of Lifehouse to see mothers and their families reintegrate successfully by changing their lives in an environment offering safety, instruction, responsibility, and hope.

The annual fundraiser event for Lifehouse is planned for the evening of Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Balzano Family Vineyard and Pumpkin Patch. Dinner, fun events, an auction, music and an explanation of Lifehouse and its operation and purpose are included.
