Letters to the editor: Disaster magnets; disastrous idea

The greens at Buenaventura Golf Course in Ventura were flooded out after a large rainstorm on Jan. 9, 2023. The course remains closed.

Approved designs proving costly

The recent storms have caused damage which will cost millions of dollars to repair. The Buenaventura Golf Course was built next to the Santa Clara River. The Ventura RV Resort was built next to the Ventura River. Both businesses are guaranteed to flood because of their close proximity to the rivers which flow on the east and west of our city. Before being built, the city of Ventura approved the design, and location of these businesses.

Our city government has betrayed taxpayers by approving these disaster magnets. Not only should these businesses never have been allowed to be built on a flood plain, they should not be allowed to rebuild, because the cost of natural disasters becomes the taxpayers’ burden. We should not be charged for the mistakes of our city government.

A disastrous plan for country

Re: Gary Sparks’ Jan. 19 letter, “A plan for the Democrats”:

In response to Mr. Sparks’ letter, Harris has accomplished nothing of significance in her political career. Cheney is a RINO and lacks any significant accomplishments. Democrats will celebrate as these two take the country further left, into socialism; the country becomes a third-world country; China becomes the dominant force in the world; and the America that you grew up in is gone forever. Just my opinion.

It amazes me how so many people see things so differently. In Mr. Sparks’ scenario, as I see it, everyone does not live happily ever after. My comments are based on what has happened in this country in the last two years, under the worst administration ever.
