Letters to the editor: District 3 supervisor race; bad roads in Ventura

Stephenson is the right choice

I had already decided Kim Marra Stephenson was a far better leader than he opponent incumbent Kelly Long then I saw the endorsement by Kathy Long. I remembered that the same last name and huge money from the oil lobby was how Long got elected.

Did you see what Kathy Long said?

“We need a Board of Supervisor majority that will fight to protect taxpayers from picking up the bill for abandoned oil and gas wells; that will fight to keep out-of-county big money from controlling our future; and who pays attention to mental health funding and fights to use it wisely.”

Also, Dr. Kim is endorsed by Steve Bennett, Linda Parks, John Zaragoza, and Maggie Kildee. Voters please do the right thing.

Long protects communities

As past mayor and councilman for the city of Fillmore, I continuously have conversations with our communities in Ventura County including families, friends, and neighbors.

One issue that consistently emerges at the forefront is the escalating concern over crime in and its impact on our daily lives. We hear about it every day on the news and social media. The link between the safety on our streets and decisions made at the polls has never been more evident. We need our elected leaders to champion our efforts to keep our neighborhoods safe.

Amidst the candidates for county supervisor in District 3 is our current Supervisor Kelly Long. Kelly stands out, earning the trust and endorsements of numerous law enforcement and public safety agencies, Sheriff James Fryhoff. Her unwavering stance against crime and dedication to community safety is commendable and warrants her reelection to the Board of Supervisors.

Our community’s well-being hinges on our collective efforts to uphold justice and safeguard our neighborhoods. I invite you to join me and a multitude of fellow citizens in supporting Kelly Long for Supervisor, ensuring her proven leadership continues to protect and serve our communities.

Ventura’s streets are in disrepair

Here we are again in the rainy season and Ventura’s roads are practically dissolving right under us. If you travel up the coast to Oregon or Washington, their roads handle the rain much better, and they get more rain.

Something is not right here. Is the Ventura Public Works getting the best bang for our bucks? Maybe it’s time to try some different contractors to do the repaving and repair. Because whatever Ventura has been doing, is not working.

This situation is intolerable. Almost every road you drive, whether a highway or a residential street, you just bounce from one pothole to the next. For the amount of taxes we pay, we should at least have decent streets. The rain for the year is not done, but our streets definitely are.
