Support Cheboygan road millage renewal

On Aug. 2, we can vote to renew the Cheboygan County Road millage. Renewing this millage is needed for upgrading and providing for our essential public road service. This renewed millage will be shared with a number of local road agencies in Cheboygan County.

Local roads link us from our homes to everyday activities such as: work, shopping, school, medical, recreation and other social connections. Roads are vital to our well-being and the economy. Good roads serve both business and our personal needs. Well maintained and upgraded roads contribute to improving our economy and our everyday life.

For these reasons, the Cheboygan County Republican Party urges you to vote yes to renew our road mileage.

Don't be fooled by Republicans in sheep's clothing

Would you ever consider voting for a candidate in the Aug. 2 primary whose first step to run for an office is a clear fraud? The 37th state Senate election has three candidates who filed to be the Democratic choice in the November election: Randy Bishop, Barbara Conley and Jim Schmidt.

But only Conley is a dues-paying member of the State Democratic Party and has demonstrated support for Democrats generally and Democratic issues and policies throughout her adult life.

Trucker Randy Bishop has a long history of supporting far-right policies including the armed, racist protests at the State Capitol in Lansing in 2021. On his March 31 radio broadcast this year, he said: "Can't even watch a college basketball tournament without commercials telling me I have to feel guilty because I think a family should be a white mom, a white dad and white kids.” During the same racist broadcast, Bishop said: “We need to run the absolute craziest strategy in the history of Michigan politics this year. We need to confuse the Democrats.”

Jim Schmidt’s current campaign website is replete with material from his unsuccessful 2020 campaign as a Republican for Congress in the Second District of Arizona. He describes himself as a lifelong Republican. His issues pages support Republican views on all major issues. This alleged Democrat even states: “Some of you have put on your helmet (MAGA hat), dug in deep, and are prepared for battle with these crazy reckless liberals who want to destroy all of America as we know it and want it.”

When Bishop and Schmidt identified themselves as Democrats to run in this election, they lied. Maybe it's time to let them know that truth now matters again. Don't be confused. Vote for Conley.
