Letters to the editor: Kudos to columnist

Columnist does good job highlighting real threats to children

To the editor:

Kudos to USA TODAY columnist Rex Huppke for his column April 2, "An assault rifle ban? Please. Children need protection from books."

It is unconscionable how Republicans/conservatives come up with the need to ban all sorts of imagined threats to children in order to avoid dealing with the real ones.

'Head-in-the-sand' politics on climate change hurts red states

To the editor,

It is sadly ironic that the "red states" are bearing the brunt of climate change related disasters while the dominant political party in those states has practiced the "head-in-the-sand" politics of denial and delay for decades.

Conclusions based on a painstakingly exhaustive scientific method are not a smorgasbord from which one can pick and choose based on purely subjective reasoning and convenience.

It is of little comfort to know that one of our two major political parties is still grounded in truth on this and other matters.
