Holding out for another three years before I grade Biden

I don't suppose the Biden haters have noticed:

  • The stock market rose and remains at record highs under Biden, and job creation is better now than during the last administration.

  • Inflation?! 6%?! Our inflation rate is laughable. Check out the inflation rates in the rest of the "free world," lots of nations run 6% a month or more.

  • International relations have pretty much returned to normal. Biden hasn't burned a bridge since he’s been in office. He even repaired some.

  • Vladimir Putin has all but shut up during the past 10-plus months.

  • The much-hyped "open borders" issue? Have Latinos or Canadians flooded anywhere you live?

  • COVID-19 is on the wane.

I'll give President Joe Biden another three years before I'll call him a failure.

The quagmire on drugs

Quite often newspaper columns and letters to editors are mostly opinion. So, it was nice to see Charles H. Jones’ column (Guest View, Nov. 20) be almost entirely a review of the evidence around the implementation and consequences of drug laws with very little of it being opinion. In this time of misinformation, people should be looking for more such evidence-based discussion.

Charles H. Jones: Legalize drugs for everyone's sake

As Jones documents, the War on Drugs has never been about drugs or addiction. If it was, it has been a complete failure. But, unfortunately, as a means of creating inequity, it has been quite a success.

A gerrymandering outrage

Gerrymandering must go.

It's a sleazy political practice designed for politicians to choose their voters. This is the opposite of representative government. It's an outrage. Voters should choose their representatives. Not the other way around. The Supreme Court washed its hands of this issue claiming it has to be settled by politicians. What a joke.

Redistricting: Oregon Supreme Court dismisses Republicans' challenge to legislative maps

Politicians care about getting elected and have zero incentive to end gerrymandering. We the voters are being tyrannized by corrupt politicians of every stripe and are abandoned by a Supreme Court without the courage to act for the good of the American people. This is bipartisan skullduggery of both political parties and we the people are the victims. End gerrymandering now!!
