Letters to the editor: Roe decision must be fought; fight for unborn person

Keep fighting for equal rights

The Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, will be another date that will live in infamy, just as the abominable decisions in Dred Scott (Americans of African descent were held not citizens of the United States), Plessey (separate, but equal, accommodations for whites and Blacks were considered constitutional) and Korematsu (justifying concentration camps for Japanese-Americans during WWII).

Dark days like these certainly test my faith that America will eventually treat no person as a second-class citizen. However, I can always find solace in the wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who said, “Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.”

Empowered by this vision, let us have continued faith and strength to keep up the good fight for the equal rights of all people, regardless of their gender, race, nationality, religion, creed or sexual orientation. Future generations will thank us for that good fight and assign the majority of today’s Supreme Court and its ilk to the dust bin of history.

Life begins at conception

Re: Mike Lawrence’s June 21 letter, “Can’t deny life begins in womb”:

I’d like to give a thumbs-up to Mike Lawrence’s letter. Nothing can erase the fact that life begins at conception. How could a baby grow if it were not alive? So, it’s easy to understand how abortion takes a life. Let’s fight to give that unborn person a choice. A choice to even live. A choice to enjoy life as a baby, child, teenager and all the years as it unfolds. Do some people really, I mean really, believes it’s OK to take away the life of an unborn person? And even make it legal? If so, perhaps they should think about it again.
