Time to replace Fitzpatrick in Congress

When I read about Congressman Fitzpatrick's huge fundraising advantage over his worthy opponent, Ashley Ehasz, I was reminded of a book I read decades ago. The title is "The Price of My Soul" written by Bernadette Devlin, the North Ireland member of parliament and civil rights activist. I found the book unabsorbing and never finished it. However, I remember the title and the article brought it mind. I would like to make a comparison between two Republican members of Congress, Liz Cheney and Brian Fitzpatrick.

Liz Cheney has lost her seat in Congress. However, my guess is that she still owns her soul. Half the members of the Republican caucus are part of the Trump cult. That cult sought to end two and a half centuries of elections that resulted in the peaceful transfer of power. I am confident that Brian Fitzpatrick is not a member of that cult. However, because of his unwillingness to criticize them, he might as well be.

I have a solution that will serve our interests as well as his. Replace him in Congress this November. Releasing him from the pressure of being re-elected will give us better representation and give him an opportunity to regain his soul. It's a win, win.

Guest opinion needed facts to support opinion

The newspaper publishes guest opinion articles that makes baseless claims as if they are facts. Where are the lines between opinion and propaganda? Unless the writer provides supporting facts and names; it is just "blah, blah, blah" pushing a not-so-hidden agenda.

For example, on Sept. 4 an opinion makes many claims; including the FBI being run by liberal elites. Unless names and facts are presented, this column is a waste of print space. Since the founding of the FBI with its director J. Edgar Hoover on May 10, 1924; every FBI director has been a Republican. All eight.

I hate propaganda and respect facts. Let's not forget the facts that the radical right elites were the sponsors of Jan. 6, 2021 failed coup by Donald Trump and Trump's friends. Doug Mastriano organized the signing by 20 fake PA electors with Lou Barletta as 1 of 20 fake signers for VP Mike Pence to replace the 20 PA certified electors' votes. Fact.

Trump's mishandling of documents is what's 'unprecedented'

Many have noted that the FBI executing a search warrant at the home of a former president was “unprecedented.” Yes, it was. But these many people, including Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, point the wrong way when identifying what the unprecedented action was.

It was not the FBI getting a duly authorized search warrant for a private citizen’s residence where unlawful items were stored. This is a standard and lawful action.

The unprecedented action was a president of the United States taking those highly classified documents to his private residence as he left office. That is unprecedented. The U.S. Archives Department had tried requests and subpoenas without getting all the documents. Hence, a search warrant was issued and executed.

Israeli forces unfairly target human rights groups

On Aug. 18 at dawn, the Israeli military violently attacked the offices of six prominent Palestinian human rights and civil society organizations, escalating the repression by the Israeli government against human rights organizations that speak out against Israeli continuing attacks against Palestinians.

This move by the Israeli government has already been widely condemned by Palestinian, Israeli, and international civil society groups. It is an attack on all Palestinian rights and an obvious attempt to evade accountability by targeting the organizations that are exposing Israeli apartheid at the United Nations and in Congress. The U.S. sends billions of dollars to the Israeli military every year and is complicit in these actions. Ask your Representative in Congress to support Rep. Betty McCollum’s H.Res.751 and call on the Biden administration to take urgent action.

Removal of documents a dangerous move

Disregarding the findings of the U.S. security agencies, that certain people in his administration were potential security risks and should not be given security clearances, Donald Trump granted them clearances.

Either intentionally or inadvertently (carelessly) he revealed highly classified information to a Russian foreign minister and ambassador.

Now it seems clear that he removed classified documents from The White House, took them to his private residence and refused to return them. Republican leaders are incensed that the DOJ had the audacity to execute a search warrant to recover those documents.

What is it going to take for this current crop of Republicans, both elected officials and voters, to face the reality that Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to the security of our country? What is it going to take for this current crop of Republicans to acknowledge that their allegiance to the Constitution of the United States is vastly more important than their allegiance to their party and Donald Trump?

I hope they wake up before its too late.

Rule of law faces peril

The primary function of government is to ensure “rule of law” — property rights are protected, contracts are honored and enforced, and corruption is punished. Teachers, lawyers and publishers have been preaching this concept for years. It seemed to work.

Suddenly, an agenda adopted by an elected official who thinks he is not bound by our rules and, incidentally, is surrounded by political sycophants who ignore his actions, and gloss over his misdeeds, and our democracy may be in jeopardy.

Two interesting questions are on the horizon:

(1). Are Americans willing to surrender our present system of democracy?

(2). Are American women willing to surrender control of their bodies to men?
