Natick Town Meeting member embarrassed at proceedings

To the editor:

The spring circus, otherwise known as Natick's 2023 annual Town Meeting, has left town. I hope everyone had a good seat because, hopefully, there won’t be another outrageous act quite like this one. If only some of the members showed as much consideration and respect for all speakers as our moderator did, I probably wouldn’t feel quite so badly.

I have been a Town Meeting member for over 20 years. Never before have I been so embarrassed over the proceedings at a Town Meeting. Not to say that there haven’t been some contentious issues, but members listened with respect to fellow members as well as to residents and taxpayers in the audience. They didn’t smack their lips, or shake their heads, or bellow out loud a comment, or even throw their hands in the air when they heard something with which they didn’t agree. Then there are some members whose only goal is to grab their 5 or 10 minutes on TV. I have observed this by watching numerous broadcasts.

I don’t know where it’s all going to end. Degrees of discouragement are the main reasons why people abandon something. I truly hope that there are enough members whose only agenda is to enjoy and help support the great town of Natick.

Eldridge praises success on senior conference

To the Editor:

I was so happy that the Middlesex and Worcester Senior Conference returned to being in-person on April 20 at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough, with over 250 seniors from across the district in attendance. Seniors who attended the conference had access to a multitude of workshops, health screenings, information tables, yoga, Zumba and, of course, our raffle prizes. They also enjoyed a complimentary breakfast and lunch, and performances by a local Marlborough band, Flashback, and the Berklee duo It Takes Two.

I am deeply grateful to the Assabet Valley superintendent, principal and students who welcomed and helped seniors at the conference, as well as the corporate sponsors: Point32Health, DCU, Ken’s Dressings and Sauces, Christopher Heights, Harvey, Walmart, MetroWest Medical Center, New Horizons, Fallon Health, Massachusetts Credit Unions, Boston Scientific, Main St. Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts, Avidia Bank, Durand Anastas Environmental Strategies and Middlesex Savings Bank.

In addition, I appreciate all of the incredible vendors who provided so much valuable information to seniors in attendance, and the companies and agencies who provided raffle prizes.

Thank you again for taking the time to attend this wonderful event. I hope that you will be able to join us again next year for the 43nd Annual Senior Conference, and if you have ideas on new sessions, programming or entertainment, please be in touch with my office.

State Sen. Jamie Eldridge, D-Marlborough
