Time for a fresh diaper

On Feb. 5, The Hawk Eye reported that U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley complained that his opponent, Iowa Sen. Jim Carlin from Woodbury, was attacking his grandson, Pat Grassley, who is Speaker of the Iowa House.

Grassley went on to say he didn’t even know Carlin was running against him.

Grassley has been a politician for 64 years, 16 years in the Iowa House, six years in the U.S. House, and now near 42 years a U.S. senator.

Carlin has been in the Iowa House for 16 years; both have extensive campaign experience.

A little sweet accusation is nothing for career politicians.

In a solicitation for campaign donations, Grassley says the American Dream is now far from reach.

He is 88, will be 89 at election time, and 95 at the end of the next term, if he makes it.

He recently said publicly that he favors term limits while campaigning for an eighth term in the Senate.

Since Grassley wanted nothing to do with investigating voter fraud, one could reason he even voted for President Joe Biden, who has been in D.C. for much of the same time.

Speculation is that Grassley will retire partway into the term and have his grandson appointed to his Senate seat to continue "the Grassley legacy," though Chuck said they never had that discussion.

There must be an ulterior motive for a person of Grassley's age to not want to spend his last years back home enjoying his family.

Remember someone said, politicians and diapers should be changed often, and for the same reason.

We can't go back

More states, including Oklahoma, are passing laws that take over control of females' lives by taking away good maternity care and making abortions illegal.

It wasn’t that long ago when females were given the right to make decisions about their own physical bodies with the passage of Roe v. Wade.

One only has to look back at genealogies to see that throughout history women and embryos died during pregnancy.

Making abortions illegal will again destroy some lives.

Females of childbearing age should also become very aware there are Republicans who not only want to make abortions illegal, they want to ban the use of IUDs and birth control pills.

Poor females will die from botched illegal abortions and some will die from suicide.

Women of wealth will always be able to have an abortion because they can afford to travel to another country if necessary, to receive a safe abortion.

There should never be government-forced pregnancies.
