Trump more fit for WWE than GOP

So much for “fair and balanced, you decide”. The real fake news is on Fox. In Murdock’s Dominion deposition he admitted the "Big Lie” was in fact a big lie, but his network reported it as real news because they didn’t want to lose the Trump viewing audience.

Trump sycophants like Carlson, Hannity, and Ingraham went along for the ride. It’s all about ratings, money, and power. Unfortunately, Trump’s minions won’t know the truth though because Fox won’t report on the Dominion lawsuit.

This is one reason why Trump is polling at 46 percent of Republicans. Not surprising given 1,000 Pound Sisters and Swamp People are among the most popular TV shows. This speaks to the mentality of the American people. Trump is immune to the moral consequences of his behavior.

Most Republicans are perfectly happy with a twice impeached, pathological liar, who has been accused of multiple rapes and molestations, allegedly paid hush money to hide an affair with a porn star, made lewd and derogatory comments about women on the Access Hollywood video and laughed about it. Trump should be a regular at WWE Wrestle Mania events where many of his fans, pals and ilk can be found.

Florida not a ‘Republican state’

“Bear in mind that the wonderful things you learn in your schools are the work of many generations. All this is put in your hands as your inheritance in order that you may receive it, honor it, add to it, and one day faithfully hand it on to your children.”

Maybe Einstein, quoted here and no slouch with the smarts, would be subversive now in Florida. But “this too shall pass.” We’re not, as DeSantis claimed in his campaign, “a Republican state.” We’re gloriously diverse. Unless you ignore our Constitution, we believe in equality. And take a gander at our families; schools; teams; neighborhoods; our kids’ friends – we’re nothing if not inclusive. We’re DEI to the max, Ron & Co.

Anybody who knows anything about kids knows you can’t shut out their world. In the words of American poet Mary Oliver, it will “offer itself to (their) Imagination, call to (them) like the wild geese, harsh and exciting.”

And there’s nothing political hot-dogging can do about that. You cannot shackle a mind. Only a guy who’s clueless about kids would buy that bill of goods. Luckily, it’s against our Bill of Rights – here where we live together, in America.

Gaetz no Rice Whale expert

We are aware that Rep. Gaetz has no expertise in the area of marine science or knowledge of the policies of officials at Eglin Air Force Base regarding the protection of the Rice Whale. He has once again exhibited his ignorance in favor of cheap publicity by filing meaningless legislation.

Blacks separated from history

I just watched a documentary about the removal of the Confederate Flag from the dome of the South Carolina Capitol building. Much to my surprise, I heard a white South Carolina male utter a Karl Marx quote in defense of his (their) feelings regarding the flag.

I say “their” because he is a member of The Sons of The Confederacy, and I am sure that his views reflect the views of his fellow members. The quote implies that if you separate or keep people, he was referring to white people, from their history, they are easily controlled.

This sounds strange coming from a white individual. Question: What race has been most separated from its history? Answer: The Black race. By who? Answer: The white race. This is done to the extent that you would rather teach a false history of America than an actual history.

It is as if we materialized from nothing. We came from nowhere. Black history is American history, like it or not and should be taught in our school systems. You seem to care more about what your children are taught or read than their safety. Dead children can neither read nor learn.

DeSantis making state better

Today's Pensacola News Journal is truly a sad disappointment as I recall how sensible and un-political the paper was in 1980 when I moved to this city. Of concern to me as being a conservative is the daily criticism of us seemingly supported on this column. Gov. DeSantis was put into office by President Trump.

In '22, he scored an unprecedented victory for the governorship in Florida among all races and political leanings. Why? Because he rings true among the majority of citizens of our lovely state. DeSantis is accused by the left of doing everything for political points when it's just untrue. He kept our schools open through COVID when Randy Weingarten kept many closed to benefit teachers - not the students.

He fought mask and injection mandates and succeeded on many fronts for the people. We in Florida pay taxes for schools whether we have children or not. I, having retired from the Escambia County school system, am in favor of that, but I also favor the voucher law just passed. If someone wants to take their children out of a school their tax dollars support and use part of that money to finance their children's attending a private or parochial school, why not?

Thanks to the legislature's increasing the amount of income to qualify to 375 percent above the national poverty level, it opens doors that have been closed for many more parents who want better. It bursts the monopoly public schools have had on education. Cancel the DOE.

Solution to downtown parking

Downtown parking has an easy fix. Simply add up the monies collected by parking fees, divide that by the number of downtown businesses and send them a bill each year. Then you can have free parking (parking fees stymie business).

Vietnam and Iraq linked by lies

I write for Veterans For Peace, Chapter 135, of Pensacola and NW Florida.

On March 26, the News Journal published a 12-page special by USA Today, on the Vietnam War after 50 years. It contained many excellent stories. But it ignored the most significant matters.

The Vietnam War, and the Iraq War, like all wars, are linked by their effects on civilians. Who can forget the picture of the naked Vietnamese girl, running down the street, being burned by napalm?

The Vietnam and Iraq war, 30 years ago this year, were linked at the start by lies. Vietnamese attacks in the Gulf of Tonkin were provoked by American actions. In Iraq, our government made false claims of Iraqi’s possession of nuclear bomb material.

The Vietnam page tells at length of injury to US troops by the herbicide Agent Orange. To the Vietnamese? The US news report mentions only that Agent Orange was used as “a means of eliminating forest cover and crops.”

Two a half million US service members were affected. The government’s care is still active. But 4.8 million Vietnamese were killed or sickened - and nothing is said of government efforts in a country much poorer than the US.
