Faulty examples for Prop. 19

Re: Alison Carlson’s Dec. 28 letter, “Don’t do away with Prop. 19”:

Ms. Carlson asserts that restoring the long held right of an heir to maintain a parent’s tax base upon the parent’s death is unfair. I disagree.

She ignores the possibility of situations where the heir would like to move into the deceased parents’ house and keep the tax base but is unable due to any number of reasons.

Her examples are faulty: every California grandma doesn’t have a house that is paid off, nor have one worth $1 million, nor have heirs that would never sell the property in the future.

Israel resists two-state solution

Re: Carol Oberg’s Dec. 27 letter, “Hamas must stop the killing”:

No one is condoning what Hamas did on Oct. 7. Like the United Nations said, Hamas did not do this in a vacuum. Israelis have been displacing Palestinians from their homes and taking their land in the West Bank for years. Even the UN said that was illegal and wrong and violated agreements.

How would Ms. Oberg react if someone kicked her out of her residence and took over her land? Israel has killed in excess of 20,000 in retaliation for 1,200 killed by Hamas. Majority of those have been innocent women and children. Is that justified in Ms. Oberg’s mind? How about next time there is a murder or crime in Ventura, the Ventura Police Department initiates a killing spree of hundreds in her neighborhood in search of the killer? You don’t kill innocents or bystanders, no matter the reason.

A two-state solution that has been proposed for decades by former President Clinton and former President Obama and resisted by Israel would solve the situation. Hamas has stated they would support a two-state solution, but that would mean Israel would have to relocate 200,000 of its settlers that took over Palestinians land and homes.

Killing of innocents has created a lot of enemies against the U.S. and Israel, since we are suppling all the weapons to Israel.

Ms. Oberg needs to examine the facts before she blames Palestinians for everything. The UN is not Palestinian.
