$20 million for nothing

So, fellow Ohioans, we just spent $20 million.

It does not matter which side of issue 1 you were on, we just spent $20 million.

Lawmakers set the August date and then authorized the expenditure. The expenditure of our money. Senate President Matt Huffman, R-Lima, just said supporters of Issue 1 did not have enough time to educate the voters about the issue.

So, it appears we spent $20 million without any forethought. What were we thinking?

Frank LaRose should quit

Frank LaRose, Ohio's secretary of state, discusses Issue 1 in Richland County on Monday, Aug. 7, the day before the 2023 special election.

A political defeat like the Issue 1 vote should have consequences. Frank LaRose, the least ethical Ohio Secretary of State since Ken Blackwell, should quit the race for Ohio senator and resign his current position immediately.

Democracy won

Democracy in Ohio was spoken loud and clear in the August 8 election. The GOP failed in their power grab despite their obvious machinations to make voting in this election onerous with the change in polling places, and means of valid identification, etc.

Ohioans reaffirmed democracy in the state of Ohio with exceptional turnout and their vote choices on August  8.

Stand proud. Democracy won!

Do. Your. Job.

I was one of the 57% that voted “no” on state Issue 1.

Thank you, to Ohioans that saw through the deception of a legislative body that cares more about their power than the will of the people. To these same legislators, I say this: Do your job!

You represent, or are supposed to represent, the people of Ohio. Stop making up things to scare people.

We have real problems to solve, and ideally, you went into public service to help solve those problems. The culture wars, the national rhetoric and conspiracy theories are a smokescreen that have allowed you to basically do nothing of substance for years.

The people have spoken. No more.

Fix our school funding. Improve our infrastructure. Assist those in need while being fiscally responsible. Stop gerrymandering. Uphold the laws you pass. Denounce corruption in your midst. Pass common sense gun laws that, according to a Dispatch article, an overwhelming majority of Ohioans support.

Listen to the people, not the lobbyists and pundits. Do. Your. Job.

Or we, the people, will do it for you.

Donald Trump did more than lie

I'd like to know why Jonathan Turley ignores part of Jack Smith's indictment against Trump in the Aug. 9 column "Special counsel goes too far on indicting Trump."

Trump did more than lie.

As Cameron Smith correctly points out in his Aug. 9 column "Trump election fraud trial is one America really needs," Trump also set up a fraudulent set of electors in six states and tried to pressure his own vice president to ignore the legitimate ones.

Actions not words Trump's problems

In his Aug. 9 column "Special counsel goes too far on indicting Trump", Jonathan Turley claims a violation of free speech in the Trump case. But that isn't what seems to be involved.

Actions are the problems because they were taken to support a spoken opinion. Those actions were used to support the contrary spoken desire with created facts. Doing this seems to constitute subversion.
