Biden promises, Trump delivers

Pretend it is election day 2024 and we have a choice between President Trump and President Biden. In 2016 Trump promised to make America oil independent. His rallying cry was “Drill Baby Drill.” He succeeded in part by lifting restrictions that banned drilling on federal lands and by full implementation of fracking (horizontal drilling). The price of crude oil plummeted as did prices at the pump.

One of the first things Biden did as president was to declare war on oil production. He wants to phase out oil production and replace it with green energy production. We have been paying higher prices at the pump ever since. President Trump promised to bring American jobs back. He created 6.6 million jobs before COVID-19 shut the American economy down. All Americans benefited from the rising tide.

Biden likes to claim Bidenomics – as he calls it – is a mega job creator. It is not. Job recovery is different from job creation. Over 70 percent of the jobs claimed by Biden were post-COVID recovery jobs and not jobs he created according to congressional analysis.

Under Trump both inflation and interest rates remained low. Under Biden inflation and interest rates have been high. Real wages have fallen thanks to high inflation and out-of-control government spending. Other Trump promises made and kept: secure our southern border; renegotiate NAFTA; cut taxes; keep USA out of war.

Improve Pensacola area’s aesthetics

Six years ago, my husband and I came to the Pensacola area for a vacation and fell in love with the city and the area. We drove around with a friend, and were amazed at how clean this city was, how beautiful and quaint the downtown area was, how lovely the beaches were, how little traffic there was, and how nice and friendly everyone seemed to be.

So, after much soul searching and discussions with children and family, we made the decision to move and make this our permanent home for the rest of our lives. Fast forward six years, the trash that we see everywhere is horrendous. The electronic billboards that are popping up all over the place look trashy. Traffic is still nothing compared to other places, but it seems as if no one remembers the rules of the road and have no idea how to use blinkers.

The beaches are still beautiful, but the trash and cigarette butts are all over the place. And people seem to have forgotten how to be kind and nice. We suddenly have a society where the mantra is, “I want what I want when I want it, and I don’t care what the rules/laws are. I better get it or else”.

I still love this area and will never leave. But the powers that be need to figure out a way to clean up the trash, start enforcing all laws, quit putting up those horrible billboards, and stop building luxury condos/apartments that no one can afford.

Don’t increase parking rates

In regard to the article on the parking issue downtown, it is apparent that this is not going to help downtown or Pensacola residents to enjoy downtown.

Rather it is a move by city government to justify raising prices as suggested by an expert. Certainly, the parking expert had to present a paper that justified his fee after all.

This is a terrible idea and is just a grab at more money by city government and no one should support an idea that does not improve parking access.

As it is now the “special” parking rates for Gallery Night are enough to stop me from attending. These proposed rates are going to hurt our downtown business owners.

Biden playing both sides of war

Democrats screamed that Trump would get us into World War III when he was elected, yet look where we are today with foreign policy ‘expert’ Biden. Do Americans realize that he is funding both sides of the Ukraine conflict and now the Israeli/Hamas war?

Under Trump both Russia and Iran were prohibited from selling their oil with sanctions so that they had no money to fund terror. However, Biden ignored the sanctions and rather than use our home-produced oil, gave these countries the green light to profit as much as they could from their oil, which has been used to fund terrorism. Now the American taxpayer must fund Ukraine and Israel while Biden continues to fund Hamas with ‘aid’ and Russia with oil sales. Only a fool could believe he is not personally profiting while he cripples America with debt.

When terrorists flowing into America via the open Southern Border inflict a similar attack on this country will the Democrat voter then wake up? I don’t think so as they are so brain washed by the propaganda on social media, they have no idea of the truth of how Biden is destroying America.

IP at fault for Perdido Bay worries

I guess my eyes are not deceiving me. Perdido Bay is very turbid. In data provided by Escambia County, the total suspended solids (very fine particles in the water) in upper Perdido Bay are nearly twice as high as other bodies of water in this area.

The source of water to Perdido Bay, the Perdido River, looks pretty good. It would have to be the discharges from International Paper, as they are the only other major source. They are probably not using as much chemicals to settle their solids as in the past. This would save them money.

But International Paper no longer has to worry about causing low dissolved oxygen in upper Perdido Bay. They have increased the pH in so that their bleaching chemical, chlorine dioxide, now produces dissolved oxygen. What a windfall for the paper industry! Does the EPA know about this? If not, they should check Google.

Columnist right about RINO Gaetz

Edwin Howard is right that Matt Gaetz embarrasses me and the rest of his constituents as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. My family was involved in Republican politics long before Gaetz was born, and we never experienced an office holder who would eviscerate fellow Republicans for personal gain and gratification. In my book, Gaetz is a RINO and has earned the title, which in his case is an understatement.

‘No party’ is the best party

I heartily agree with Kim Kline’s “Your Turn” commentary in the Pensacola News Journal (Oct. 20).

Not only our state but our country should welcome a No Party Affiliation (NPA). There is the argument that a third candidate can result in the election of a less qualified candidate. I have also heard many say that they voted for President Joe Biden because of former president Donald Trump’s abrasive personality.

However, what can we do when our choice is, “None of the above?” Many have questioned President Biden’s mental competence. Others are concerned that Donald Trump’s legal battles will compromise his ability to govern. (Remember the distractions of the now disproven accusations against him during his first two years in office?)

Ms. Kine reminded us that George Washington warned Americans against the dangers of political parties. George Washington also stepped down after serving two terms. This practice was continued until Franklin D. Roosevelt. Should we set term limits on Congress? But that’s a conversation for another day.

What can we do when our candidates are more concerned with keeping their party in power than the will of the people? What can we do when both candidates are embroiled in controversy? Who does one vote for when our choices are, “None of the above”? We must be given the choice of someone who truly is for the will of the people. A candidate with NPA is the answer.
