A message all Americans need to hear

All Americans need to hear President Joseph Biden’s Jan. 5 speech at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

President Biden speaks of the American struggle to throw off the yoke of Monarchy in 1776.

President Biden speaks of the American will to establish a Democratic Republic for and by the people on July 4, 1776.

President Biden speaks of the threat our democracy faces such as the January 6 insurrection caused by the lies ex-President Trump spreads in his attempt to cling to power.

President Biden speaks of his shock and horror to hear of ex-President Trump’s admiration for Putin, Kim Jon Un and other dictators.

All American’s need to hear this message.

After hearing this excellent speech by President Biden I ask all Americans to examine their commitment to our nation’s Constitution and their commitment to free and fair elections.

I ask all Americans to reject the lies of Donald Trump.

Trump’s goal is to cling to power, not to uphold and defend our great American democracy.

Local governments can help curb ‘climate chaos’

I was so glad to see Peter Buck’s op-ed, “Local leadership in a warming world” regarding the Solar Power Purchase Agreement, which has been in discussion for four years now. Local government works slowly and getting all 12 entities informed has been a formidable task for the working group. But it seems now the final decisions must be made. I hope any municipality or agency that has decided against going with the plan will reconsider and that those still unsure will be able to embrace this excellent way to pool together to purchase solar energy instead of traditional fossil fuel (coal, oil, gas) electric power.

Our time has come to be proactive on climate change and I hope all entities involved will be on the right side of decision making for the future of our planet and generations to come. There should be no hesitation regarding the climate chaos the world will experience if we do not act. The science is in. It is time to act swiftly to end our dependence on fossil fuels that have created a disaster in the making, and embrace wholeheartedly renewable energy. Climate change is already here. It is our obligation to do everything possible to help curb the chaos which will ensue in the next few decades if action isn’t taken. Good leadership will act now.

Another successful Alternative Christmas Fair

The UBBC community is grateful for the participation of the community in our 41st annual Alternative Christmas Fair. It was a joyous day, filled with a warm spirit of community, delicious food, and 30 nonprofits sharing the work they do with our donors and each other. Those who donated at the event and those who donated through our online fair helped us raise $82,000 in contributions for our 30 nonprofit partners. Once again, the generosity of this community is truly remarkable. Thank you! We hope to see you on Dec. 8, 2024, for the 42nd annual event. We are hoping the 42nd year of this remarkable event will bring the donation total for those 42 years to $1,000,000.
