Mike DeWine's fails at leadership

By any objective standard, Mike DeWine’s leadership has been a disaster.

His ostensibly hands-off approach to redistricting and other issues has basically been a cover for the GOP to run Ohio like a one-party state.

He has enthusiastically gutted access to abortion. His refusal to even stage a debate this year shows unbelievable arrogance, as if he does not need to account for his record as governor.

If re-elected, we can look forward to more of the same: naked power grabs in the legislature and tax cuts to benefit only the wealthy.

As a state, we deserve better leadership, and voting for Nan Whaley will bring good government back to Ohio. Whaley fought for the American Rescue Plan; Mike DeWine, in his usual way, has publicly opposed the plan while also using the money to plug holes in Ohio’s budget.

Whaley has fought for gun control while DeWine continues to tolerate a culture of gun ownership that makes it impossible to feel safe in public anymore.

On Nov. 8 (or before), vote for Nan Whaley and elect a leader who will fight for Ohioans.

Election deniers 'unethical sore losers'

J.D. Vance and other Ohio candidates running in the upcoming midterms continue to cast doubt on the validity of the 2020 presidential election.

More:Ohio statewide, congressional candidates doubted 2020 election as Trump claimed fraud

Of course, we all know what they're doing: Following Donald Trump's playbook, they are setting the stage in case they lose their election to claim that they really won but that the election was stolen from them, too, just as it was stolen from Trump.

President Joe Biden is sworn in during the 2021 Presidential Inauguration at the U.S. Capitol. Biden was elected president on Nov. 7, 2020, defeating Donald Trump by a margin of 7.1 million votes and 74 electoral votes.

Audit after audit, recount after recount, investigation after investigation, court case after court case have shown that the 2020 election was fairly won by Joe Biden and fairly lost by Donald Trump.

J.D. Vance and the others who now preach that our election process is not fair, and who'll cry foul if they lose their Senate or House races, are revealing that they are unethical sore losers and odious bullies who would pull down our democratic system if necessary to grab power for themselves.

But the Big Lie strategy - tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it until people eventually come to believe it - hasn't worked for Donald Trump and, God willing, it won't work for J.D. Vance and his cohorts.

But one more thing to keep in mind in this election: Inflation, difficult as it is now, is only temporary and will pass. But if we give up our democracy it will be gone for generations. Maybe forever.

Don't vote for 'Big Lie' supporters

The elephant in the room, pun intended, is that the Jan. 6 committee, through Republican testimony, has proven that Donald Trump tried to overthrow the 2020 election and the will of the people.
