My family didn't expected society's help

My great-great grandparents had 13 children, one of whom then had 12, one of whom then had 10, one of whom was my mom who had one.

By then, television had been invented for evening enjoyment, I guess.

The point is that they all accepted the responsibility of raising each child.

No one expected society to assist them and they certainly never thought of terminating any of them before even being born.

Responsibility isn't a word young people hear emphasized much anymore and that's the problem.

People of today have the resources to prevent unwanted conceptions in a time of changed morals, so unwanted pregnancies should be rare today if everyone was simply responsible ahead of time.

Create safe places for ATV riders

An ATV rider does a wheelie in the parking lot of former Cooper Stadium.
An ATV rider does a wheelie in the parking lot of former Cooper Stadium.

Regarding the July 11 article, "ATV riders noticing police crackdown," would it not be better to create safe places for ATV and dirt bike riders to enjoy this sport rather than simply crack down on usage in areas that are unsafe or trespassing?

By ending access without creating access, the problem is not solved.

We have a parks system that provides recreational outlets.

Could this not be part of that? Other solutions? Has anyone actually talked with the riders about how to improve the situation rather than simply taking equipment and issuing tickets?

We've got to get out of this mess

In response to Lisa Klein's July 8 letter to the editor, "I'm grieving for America": Well said, Lisa. I don't "get it," either.

Many things are so wrong, most of us agree, but our elected officials can only see money for their campaigns by bowing to the political right. Everyone must vote. It's our only way out of this mess.

Trump or King George III

Donald Trump said, "A traitor is everyone who does not agree with me."  Well, it was actually said by King George III of Revolutionary War fame, but it could very well have also been said by Donald Trump.

More like 'fake and biased'

Fox News host Emily Compagno made an idiotic and fallacious comment that Kenyan women have no voting rights and are not allowed to leave home once they are pregnant.

She confounds me even more when she falsely claims that women in Oman risk being killed if they vote against their husbands' wishes.

First, may I suggest that Fox News change its slogan from "Fair and Balanced" to

Secondly, there are eight Muslim majority countries that have elected women as heads of state whereas the U.S. never did! What seems to be the problem?

Looks like women living under Sharia have more rights than their American counterparts.

Finally, I doubt if Compagno can even locate either Kenya or Oman on a map.

Fox News and Emily Compagno have no moral authority to lecture Kenyans and Omanis about women's rights.
