Trump’s future is fascinating

With yet another Trump indictment, it’s time to start answering important questions. The odds of conviction and jail time have increased, and legal betting venues are offering odds. While supporters still chant “lock her up,” current odds suggest Trump will be jailed before Hillary.

Question one is what size orange jump suit will fit Trump? My guess is 3XL. Second, will Donald Trump be entitled to secret service protection in jail? He has protection now so, I guess the answer is yes, but how will that work? Will Trump be released from prison to take the oath and deliver his inaugural, or will he do it from jail? Will Trump pardon himself? The answer certainly is yes in an attempt to avoid the big house, but will it stick?

Will Trump be allowed a special cell, and have his golden toilet installed? Will Trump be permitted conjugal visits from his wife or girlfriends? Prisoners have filed federal and state lawsuits arguing that denial of conjugal visits violates human rights. The SCOTUS will be very busy. Will Trump ultimately cop a plea or flee to Russia to avoid extradition and jail?

Inquiring minds want to know. Meantime I’ve made my bets.

Readers don't hold back: Letters: I have no love for Joe Biden, but I’ll take him over an unfit Donald Trump

Exposed lies haven’t slowed Fox

In April of this year the Fox Network settled a lawsuit with Dominion Voting machines for $787 million, basically because they had been knowingly lying to its viewers about the 2020 presidential election and the role that Dominion played.

According to CNN, the payment was meant to “end a colossal two-year legal battle that publicly shredded the right-wing network’s credibility.” You might think that amount of money might bring about some changes to the Fox business model, but apparently not.

I tuned in to Fox recently and I heard a commentator say, “if these allegations are true this could spell trouble for Joe Biden.” Of course, the allegations are about Hunter Biden’s business dealings and how corrupt Joe and Hunter are. Fox, and the House committee investigating the Bidens, can’t quite seem to get past the allegation stage.

What I find ludicrous is that Fox is trying to convince its viewers that Joe Biden is the crooked one running for president, not the man who has been indicted four times. And they say it with a straight face. We can all agree that $787 million is a lot of money to pay for knowingly lying, but apparently not enough to affect the Fox business model.

Alfred-Washburn Center loves all

In response to the recent News Journal article regarding Brent Homeless Camp published Aug. 3, I would like to clarify the mission of the Alfred-Washburn Center, special works of The Society of St Vincent DePaul, Council Pensacola-Tallahassee, established in 1998. We are a day facility operating five days weekly (closed Sunday/Tuesday) offering free services to the under served.

Community interaction:

  • We work closely with our community neighbors.

  • Local health and military support agencies periodically assist clients on site.

  • We have no authority, nor do we take direct authority outside of our property.

  • We provide a clean and safe environment and accept all clients until they do not follow the center’s rules. Then removal action is taken.

Our services include breakfast, lunch and pastries; water and coffee; shower and laundry facilities; mail service; and clothing, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, and blankets.

Our non-profit is funded by private donations. We truly appreciate all those who work with us. We choose not to accept government funding. Our services are provided by volunteers; therefore, we are unable to provide round the clock services. We offer these services in a loving way, seeing the face of Jesus in all who enter our property.

Bidens operating above the law

The front-page article on Attorney General Merrick Garland appointing a special counsel in the Hunter Biden probe failed to convey critical “talking points.”

Davis Weiss is the same one who put forward Hunter Biden’s plea deal that included a provision that he would not be prosecuted for any other or future crimes that he committed. This sweetheart deal was so egregious that the federal judge involved rejected it outright. You can bet that, with Weiss in charge, there will be a full scale whitewash of any criminal acts by the ‘Biden Criminal Clan.’

We now have two systems of “justice” in the U.S. – one for the tyrannical left and one for conservatives who dare to support the U.S. Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees.

Milton’s tortoises a casualty

I see all the land being cleared for new homes in East Milton. Did anyone do a walk to see how many gopher tortoises needed to be re-located or will they just be buried alive? I thought they were protected and endangered, but I must be wrong.

Rehabilitate anti-Semitic vandals

Perhaps, instead of trying as adults those young men accused of damaging Jewish centers with bricks covered in anti-Semitic symbols, I’d like to suggest an alternative: While ignorance is no excuse for their behavior - because certainly they knew what they were doing was wrong - it does help to explain why they engaged in it.

Ignorance, combined with hate-inspired indoctrination on the anti-social media platforms, is a dangerous combination. The boys’ ignorance is apparent when you consider that they also used the Star of David at an Islamic Center. Locked up in prison, their behavior might worsen.

Perhaps, instead, our Jewish community members, who were targets of these hateful acts, would agree to supervise the youths in educational and community service settings so that they could unlearn the poisonous messages they had been consuming. It’s a lot to ask of them, but the results could be redemptive.

Human behavior is befuddling

If Earth is being visited by extraterrestrials, they must be confused by the extremes of human behavior they’re witnessing, depending on where they’re observing.

If they were in many large U.S. cities, they’d see marauding bands of young people carrying out organized looting of stores and selling their stolen merchandise on social media. Or they might witness an endless string of indiscriminate shootings that are often gang-related. They would be witnessing behaviors void of any respect for law, property or human life.

If, on the other hand, the extraterrestrials were witnessing the recent firestorm that ravaged Maui, they would witness human behavior at the other end of the spectrum. They would see humans coming together to render aid to their fellow humans who had lost everything in a matter of hours. They would see humans stepping up to give aid and comfort to their island neighbors in need.

One group of humans causes death and destruction. The other group confronts tragedy and helps people rise above the loss. There are humans who see a tragic situation and ask, “How can I help?” Others look at the world and ask, “How can I destroy it?”
