Letters: Support for police; reproductive freedom; help from US senator

Remembering respect for police

I'm the widow of Sgt. Lane Orem, Akron Police Department. He was an officer for 33 years. He loved his job every day he went to work. He was a good Christian man and helped a lot of people on his job in Akron.

Everyone thought a lot of him. They respected policemen then; why can't people do that now? There are a lot of good police. Why can't communities all come together for our men in blue? They put their life in danger every day for all people.

I was proud to be his wife. He was a wonderful man to everyone he met on his job. He passed away on May 16, 2014.

Already there is reproductive freedom

Many today say they want "reproductive freedom." All who know the facts of life, except in cases of forcible rape, already have reproductive freedom. They are free to determine under what circumstances, and with whom they have intercourse. What "pro-choice" persons really want is anti-reproductive freedom. That is, they want the legal right to kill the human being they and their partner brought into the world.

Dedicated public servant

I was having difficulty with a government-related issue. I contacted Sen. Rob Portman. His office replied with a copy-and-paste manifesto boasting of his accomplishments and accolades and a brief thanks for my email.

Sen. Sherrod Brown's office immediately and personally reached out to me, assigned an employee to work with me and actually resolved the issue. Big difference! I'm a registered Republican who is voting for Brown going forward.
