There’s already a dictator in White House

I have some advice for Mr. Trussell (News Journal, Jan. 14, 2024), “for your sanity please turn off the propaganda being fed by CNN and MSNBC.” No one is going to install concentration camps and murder people.

If Trump had that intention, then why did he not do it when he had a Republican congress? What do you say about the Democrats imprisoning people for years without trial just because they were present on Jan. 6, 2021? The conditions of the D.C. prison where these Americans are incarcerated are akin to the camps where Hitler sent his political rivals.

In America, you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty and are entitled to a speedy trial – no doubt Mr. Trussell is OK with this persecution. Biden’s government uses the FBI and DOJ to intimidate Americans who disagree with his communist policies, and indeed when your door is kicked in by armed thugs at dawn this is pretty effective.

These are the tactics of Nazis – not Trump. Biden has demonized half the country in the most vile way – why is Trussell not complaining about this? We already have a dictator in the White House determining how we are allowed to live.

Nathan Kahn leaves strong legacy

The legacy a person leaves behind is the people they touch. Nathan Kahn, who passed on Jan. 14, 2024, leaves a huge legacy. He was the consummate teacher. I was fortunate to be one of his students. I met Mr. Kahn in 1996 when I first moved to the area. It was at his business, Ordon’s Menswear. He showed many how to operate a small business. He taught many in Rotary as a 50-year member and  a Paul  Harris Fellow. He shared his knowledge as a 65-year Mason. He was a founding mender of the Pensacola Downtown Improvement Board.

I became closer to Nathan in 2005 as many worked to bring the Community Maritime Park to life.  There was never a meeting before the park was open until the CMPA board dissolved that he was not present and supportive. With a project such as the Park, experienced visionaries like Nathan and others are so important. It was never about Nathan, he was all about what is best for the community.

We continued our relationship. Every Sunday until COVID, Rishy and I would visit with Nathan and his group at brunch. Nathan was always a "how can I help?" person.

Nathan felt good about the direction of the community.

He was a great teacher. I, and I know many others, are grateful we spent time in his classroom of life.

Congress has lost the plot

Enough already! A tiny minority of Congress (ultra-right-wing Republicans) are hamstringing it. People of all political persuasions have had it. They want their congressman to represent them, not spend their time in office working to be reelected. Whatever happened to compromise? This used to be acceptable to all of Congress.

Our congressmen seem to be more interested in their public image, than working for the good of their constituents.

Let's get back to working for the people.

King’s comments on Vietnam shameful

This is for Mr. Mike Mozur. I classify Martin Luther King Jr.'s comments on the Vietnam War to be similar to those of Hanoi Jane. I served in Vietnam. The Black soldiers in our outfit refused to participate in combat operations thanks to MLK's comments.

What a disgusting display of patriotism.

Broxson’s water solution needs work

Just a bit of information on the bill Sen. Broxson has introduced concerning the water situation in north Santa Rosa County.

My biggest problem is that he didn't contact the several leaders of the water systems and ask about their concerns and if they had problems the state could help them solve. Bill 1485 as first written will not help the nearly 100,000 customers the independent water systems serve.

Hopefully HB 1485 can be amended and include the changes brought forth by a group of water systems leaders.

Biden’s cabinet is a mess

Short and to the point, what Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin did hiding his responsibilities by lying further demonstrates the policy of Biden and being untruthful in all aspects of his presidency. Yes, I feel sorry for Austin, but it shows his true nature in-line with the rest of this administration. The only transparency is untruthfulness. Just look at our world situation. Nuff said.
