Twitter needs Elon Musk

Different points of view, opinions, the other side of the story, discussions, other facts — all deemed disinformation by Twitter. Who made Twitter the final and only word? What is Twitter basing their all-knowing information on? Why do they get to say what disinformation is? What happened to being able to disagree? Why is Twitter allowed to stifle my freedom of speech? We need Elon Musk.

Gov. DeSantis did cross the line

I cannot agree enough with the April 26 column “Gov. DeSantis crossed a line with redistricting,” written by the League of Women Voters of Florida. His redrawing of congressional maps, which was noted to be “at odds with both the spirit and the letter of Fair Districts,” also completely violates the democratic process our country was founded upon. Regardless of how one views what he has done during his term as Governor, this move shows his true colors and is reprehensible. Whether one is a Republican or Democrat, if one believes in fair elections, it is hard to justify a vote for him.

Column on science confusing

Mr. Salerno confuses policy with science. Science is all about hypothesis testing and reducing uncertainty by gathering relevant facts. Policy is all about having the courage to set a course of action when faced with uncertainty. Policy-makers must decide which error is the worst one to make in the light of the uncertainty that science can’t resolve. For example: Which error is worse, spending the money to address climate change when the climate is not changing or not spending the money to address climate change when it is changing?

Elections police will cost taxpayers

Gov. DeSantis has created an Elections Security Office within the Florida Department of State, at a price of $3.7 million for 15 new officials. This office will accept hotline tips of potential election fraud and then turn the information to 10 Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators for further examination.

Assuming a 20% start up cost for the office, phone lines, computers, and office materials, that leaves $2,960,000 for salaries. Fifteen officials plus 10 investigators come out to a salary of $118,400 each. But, we already have the investigators in place. So, taxpayers will be paying $197,330 per state official to answer the phones and take messages. I’ve been wondering where the Republican politicians will go after their terms are limited, since there are only so many university presidencies. Now, I know.

What voters need to know

Before the next election, every member of Congress needs to answer this question. "Are you for open borders?" If yes, why and if no, what are you going to do to get illegal immigration under control?

This is not America

Banning abortion, censoring books, 'Don’t Say Gay,' afraid to speak — is this the country that we live in now? Is this our Declaration of Independence, our Bill of Rights, our Constitution? Or is this just political gaming, blaming someone something to get a vote? What a mockery. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Is this making America great again?
