WPD chief's no confidence vote is meaningless

Regarding "After Wilmington council votes 'no confidence' in police chief, now what?," Jan. 24:

Having worked in the city for over 45 years, I have seen No Confidence votes taken against police chiefs, fire chiefs and union presidents.

They are not worth the paper they are written on.

Members of both departments continue to do the best job they can do no matter if it's their own membership who cast the votes or outsiders.

Maybe City Council should start working on laws that put criminals in jail instead of bashing those who put themselves in harms way each and every day.

Regarding "Citing PTSD, Rep. Gerald Brady resigns. Sources say there is more to the story," Jan. 21:

We want to thank Gerald Brady for his lifetime of service to his country and our local community. Brady's service includes working as a union representative for his fellow workers, service to our country in the armed forces and his many years serving as a city councilman and state representative. All of this was done to serve others with no gain for himself.

Brady revelation of a PTSD diagnosis can help explain the very uncharacteristic e-mail travesty. He has certainly paid the price for that issue.

Now it is time to thank him for his service and understand that mental health issues such as PTSD are complex and deserve compassion.
