New Lewes Redner's grocery store sets opening date

Redner's Markets is set to open its third Sussex County store off Route 9 in Lewes next month.

Company spokesman Eric White confirmed the 12001 Old Vine Blvd. store will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.

The 49,000-square-foot Redner's Fresh Market was originally planned to open in spring 2021, but was delayed by COVID-19, according to White. It's located in the Vineyards of Nassau Valley, where more retail space is planned to be built, as well.

The Lewes store is Redner's fourth Fresh Market, a slightly more upscale version of the grocery store with a focus on prepared and fresh foods. The store will also have gas pumps.

"It has certain amenities and departments other stores wouldn't, such as a full-service meat room where you can get custom cuts, marinated and breaded product. This store will have sushi," White said.

The public is invited to attend an open house from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, to preview the store and meet staff.

Lewes will mark the Pennsylvania-based Redner's 45th store, with locations throughout eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

The Lewes and Rehoboth Beach area is something of a hot spot for grocery stores; there are five major grocery stores in the about 4 miles between the towns. Redner's Fresh Market will make six.
