Lewis County Sheriff: Lowville man killed after motorcycle strikes cattle trailer in New Bremen

A 77-year-old Lowville man was killed after his motorcycle hit the back of a cattle trailer Wednesday morning, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Michael S. Russell of Lowville was traveling north on Route 812 in the town of New Bremen, while a pickup truck driven Eric H. Horn, 46, of Remsen, was stopped in the road due to a fallen live wire. As he began to pull forward, Russell hit the trailer hitched to the truck, the release stated.

Russell was brought to Lewis County General Hospital for his injuries and was later pronounced dead, deputies said.

Both lanes of Route 812 were closed between Snell and Ridge roads for about three hours. The crash remains under investigation.
