Lewisburg grad running for Pa.'s 85th District

Jan. 26—Lewisburg native Nick Jacobson is seeking the Democratic nomination in the race for the 85th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

"I think people in our district deserve a representative that will work as hard as they do every day," said Jacobson, a 2023 graduate of Yale University where he studied ethics, politics and economics.

A lifelong Valley resident, Jacobson graduated from Lewisburg Area High School and wanted to return to his hometown after college to represent his community and not "get caught up in spitball contests" in Harrisburg. "The D next to my name gives you an idea of the policies I want to support, but it doesn't say anything about the people I'm willing to work with. Politics is working to make our lives better."

Main issues facing the district, which includes Snyder County and parts of Union, Juniata and Mifflin counties, he said are the economy and improving infrastructure, including broadband.

"We need to invest in our public schools. Everyone deserves a great education," said Jacobson.

Jacobson has worked at Pennsylvania's Department of Health on rural health care and the Auditor General's Office on funding for public schools. In the summer of 2023, Jacobson interned in U.S. Sen. Bob Casey's Washington, D.C. office, working on his judiciary team.

"I understand policy and the politics of getting legislation drafted and passed. I'll show up and I'll deliver for the people of our district," he said.

Also seeking the Democratic nomination for the 85th District in the April primary is Kratzerville resident Jared Hoffman.

The seat is held by Republican David Rowe who has served since 2019 and is seeking reelection.
