Lewisburg pins eight in nonleague meet

Jan. 7—WELLSBORO — Lennon Barner's fall at 285 pounds broke a tie and kicked off a seven-bout winning streak that carried Lewisburg to a 54-21 win over Wellsboro in nonleague wrestling Friday.

The Green Dragons (2-3) rebounded from Thursday's loss at Montoursville by winning eight matches by fall and another by forfeit.

Barner, a freshman, stopped Wellsboro's Dominick Starkweather in 63 seconds to put Lewisburg on top 18-12. The Green Dragons opened the meet with consecutive first-period falls from Chase Wenrich (160 pounds) and Trent Wenrich (172).

The clinching run included pins from Landon Michaels (114), Jace Gessner (121), Landen Wagner (127), Quinton Bartlett (133) and Derek Gessner (139) that gave Lewisburg a 54-12 lead.
