Lexington celebrates end of summer with annual Blueberry Parade

LEXINGTON −Lexington celebrated its 20th annual Blueberry Festival this weekend at Community Park with plenty of rides, food and music for everyone as the summer days come to an end.

This year's event ran from Thursday to Sunday.

The festival wrapped up on Sunday with different rides, attractions and food vendors available to the public. On the schedule for Sunday was a church service at Berean Baptist Church, along with a magic show in the early afternoon, live music from the group Trio featuring Joel Claypool, and the annual parade.

Some of the music selections the band were playing were songs from Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Ben E. King's "Stand By Me."

"This is the first time we've been here," said Justin Lewis, who brought his kids. "Favorite part of the festival honestly is the food and some of the music is pretty decent. I brought my kids, plus my son is in the parade."

Participants in the parade were a group of boy scouts, Miss Teen and Baby pageant winners and runner-ups, the Marching Princesses from Bellville, OhioHealth, Lexington High School's marching band, volleyball, cross country, football, boys and girls soccer teams and more.

"I've been going for the last 10 years," said Jerry Snavely. "I enjoy the atmosphere and then seeing some folks you normally don't get to see is always nice. So, there's a little bit of reconnection there. And obviously the playground setting is pretty nice for the little ones."

Events such as Visiting Royalty and Slick 31 closed out this year's festival.
