Lexington Roosters restaurant closed after fire Friday night

The Lexington Fire Department was working a structure fire at a Roosters restaurant in Lexington Friday night.

The fire was reported just before 8:30 p.m. at the Roosters at 124 Marketplace Drive, off Man o’ War Boulevard near Nicholasville Road.

Lexington Maj. Derek Roberts said that when firefighters arrived, they found fire in the wall above the dropped ceiling, which they were “able to extinguish with minimal extension and damage.”

No injuries were reported.

The restaurant remained closed Saturday, and employees said they did not yet know when it would reopen.

Roberts said the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will work with the restaurant to determine when they would be able to reopen.

Roberts said that as of about 9:30 p.m., the cause of the fire and its origin were under investigation.

Roosters has nine Kentucky locations, including a second Lexington location on Richmond Road, according to its website.

Two Louisville-area Roosters restaurants have also had fires this year. The Roosters on Preston Highway had a fire in March, and a Roosters in Clarksville, Ind., was destroyed by fire in late February, WLKY and other local media reported.
