LHS art students selected for emerging artist show

LANCASTER -- Lancaster High School’s Art Department announced that seven students have been selected to exhibit in the 2023 Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) Emerging Artist Show.

The exhibition is open to any Ohio high school student whose art teacher is a member of the OAEA. This show is designed to motivate and inspire new artists to excel in areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, computer art, photography and printing. One hundred and sixty-three artworks were juried into the show from 260 entries from the eight OAEA regions. In September, artworks were exhibited at the Westerville Public Library and a recognition ceremony was held. Throughout the month of October, work is displayed at the Ohio Department of Education in Columbus.

Representing Lancaster High School are Megan Green (12), Sarah Johnson (12), Addyson Brown (11), Gabriel Heetland (12), Jakob Gibson (11), Jade Piko (10), and Damian Welch (12). In addition, special recognition was awarded to Megan Green, Best in Show Printmaking, and Sarah Johnson, Best in Show Mixed Media.

“We are very proud of these students, not only for their talent but for putting their works out into the public to be judged,” said Principal Scott Burre. “That’s not an easy thing to do. We know we have some of the best artistic talent in central Ohio within our school and the best art instruction to help cultivate that talent.”The Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) is the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts educators in Ohio. Members include elementary, middle, and high school visual arts educators; college and university professors; researchers and scholars; teaching artists; administrators and supervisors; and art museum educators.
