LHS boys basketball dominates Greeley West 76-24

Dec. 16—The Laramie High boys basketball team beat Greeley West (Colorado) 76-24 at the Roundball Invitational on Friday in Greeley, Colorado, to move to 5-0 on the season.

The Plainsmen were close to tallying two double-doubles in the first half, as junior Neil Summers recorded his fourth of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Jaden Smith was right behind him with seven points and nine rebounds in the first 16 minutes.

LHS took a 28-18 lead into the halftime break, despite shooting 11-of-39 (28%) in the first half. The Plainsmen were able to make up for poor shooting by doubling the Spartans in rebounds at 30-14.

LHS put the game away in the third quarter with a 27-2 run to take a commanding 55-20 lead. The Plainsmen's shooting picked up, as LHS shot 9-of-16 (56%) in the third frame.

The Plainsmen's domination continued through the fourth, and Laramie outscored the Spartans 48-6 in the second half. Sophomore Blaze Goetz scored a career-high for the second straight game with 20 points off the bench, and 17 of his points came in the fourth quarter.

Summers finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds, and Smith finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Juniors Max Alexander and Brayden McKinney also reached double-digit points with 10 each.

Laramie dominated the boards, out-rebounding Greeley West 52-21. The Plainsmen only attempted five free throws in the win.

Greeley West shot 11-of-47 (23%) from the floor and finished with 17 turnovers while shooting just 1-of-14 (7%) from 3-point range.

LHS will take on familiar foe Cheyenne Central in the championship game of the Roundball Invitational at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Greeley Central High.
