LHS wrestling advances three to semis at Lander Invite

Jan. 20—The Laramie High wrestling team sent three individuals to the championship semifinals on the first day of the Lander Invite on Friday.

The boys totaled 65 team points for a tie for sixth place in the standings. The girls scored 14 points and sit in 11th place.

For the Plainsmen boys, Dakota Ledford (150 pounds) received a first-round bye before beating Powell's Reese Lowe by fall. In the quarterfinals, Ledford beat Greybull/Riverside's Caiden Sorenson by pin to advance to the semifinals.

Trenten Hubbs (157) also received a first-round bye before beating Douglas' Kash Lenzen by pin. In the quarterfinals, Hubbs beat Thermopolis' Samuel Skeleton by pin.

Jamison Bade (285) won a first-round match against Burns/Pine Bluffs' Michael Stoneking by fall. He lost in the quarterfinal to Powell's Doug Bettger by fall before winning his consolation match against Pinedale's Cash McCann.

Elijah Ponce (113), Corbin Donner (120), Liam Knerr (120), Westen Ennist (138), Cutter Trabing (165) and Tyler Gale (165) all received first-round byes before losing their first match of the day.

Ponce lost to Saratoga's Josiah Stockwell by pin and received a bye in the consolation bracket. Ponce went on to beat Burns/Pine Bluffs' Kohl Krakow and Cheyenne South's Zach Gregory by pin.

Donner lost a second-round match to Rawlins' Adrian Trujillo by pin. He lost by pin to Torrington's Tyler Nicolay in the third round of the consolation bracket.

Knerr beat Powell's Braxton Batt by fall in the second round, but lost to Cody's Ty Peterson by 7-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals. He won his next consolation match against Lander's Colin McWilliams with a 14-2 major decision.

Ennist lost by 8-4 decision to Cody's Gabe Grant in the second round. He moved on to beat Rawlins' Bridger Herring and Powell's Wyatt Heffington by pin to advance in the consolation bracket.

Trabing lost back-to-back matches after his first-round bye, falling to Green River's James Herwaldt and Powell's McKale Foley by pin.

Gale lost a second-round match against Wind River's Issac Gardner by pin. He received a second bye before losing to Riverton's Weston McLaughlin by an 8-3 decision.

Caden Polson (126) lost in the first round to Cody's Kort Sorenson by a 2-0 decision before receiving a bye. He beat Lyman's Jaxon Tillotson by pin and Torrington's Reece Grubbs with a 13-5 major decision before losing to Jackson's Tyson Kendall by 6-4 sudden victory.

Beau Wright (215) lost by pin to Jackson's Kaden Nield-Adee in the first round before receiving a bye in the consolation bracket. Wright lost to Kemmerer's Owen Barton by pin.

For the LHS girls, McKenna Barham (130) won a quarterfinal match against Riverton's Peyton Scherf by pin in her only match of the day to advance to the championship semifinals.

Avianca Guzman (115) won a first-round match against Powell's Eleasah Horsley by pin. She lost in the quarterfinal to Wind River's Lily Hill by decision before winning a consolation match against Pinedale's Matazi Landers by pin.

Ella Godwin (115) lost to Thermopolis' Lilly Quintanilla by pin, moving her into the consolation bracket. Godwin received a bye before losing to Lyman's Kelsie Nebeker by pin.

Ireland Funk (120) lost to Jackson's Tai McBride by pin in the quarterfinals. Sherian Crabtree (140) lost to Rawlins' Kloey Walker by pin in her only match of the day in the quarterfinals.

The Plainsmen will finish out the Lander Invite starting at 9 a.m. Saturday in Lander.
