LHSAA football state championships 2022: North DeSoto vs Lutcher score updates Non-Select Division II

North DeSoto has been having a magical season that the Griffin faithful hope continues through Saturday’s noon meeting with Lutcher in the LHSAA Non-Select Division II state championship game.

The matchup in the Louisiana Superdome will pit the Griffins (12-1), who have never won a football championship since the school opened in 1982, against the Bulldogs (13-1), who have eight titles (1975, 1978, 1983, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2015, 2016).

Behind freshman quarterback Luke Delafield, senior running backs John Lewis and Brian Banks and sophomore wide receiver Cole Cory, the Griffins have been unstoppable offensively except in their only loss to Northwood.

The key is a Griffin defense that takes it personal when it’s scored upon and hasn’t allowed more than two scores to an opponent in any of its three playoff games. But they’ll have a tough time stopping Lutcher quarterback D’Wanye Winfield, who averages 8.34 yards per carry while scoring 21 TDs.
