Liberty season ends with close loss to Wings

The Liberty’s incredibly unusual 2020 season has finally ended.

The Liberty lost 82-79 to the Dallas Wings Sunday afternoon at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The game was rescheduled after players refused to play on Aug. 27 as part of the wave of strikes across American sports after the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

The team’s third win of the season was in their sights Sunday, but an ice-cold fourth quarter sealed it. The Liberty lead 71-65 with eight minutes left, but managed just 12 points in the fourth quarter. They finished the season 2-20, the worst WNBA winning percentage since the Shock went 3-34 in 2011.

The young team from Brooklyn shouldered the weight of loss after loss, but the record column was never the focus of the season —growth was.
