LIBERTY TWP. – Construction on a PetSuites kennel is expected to begin in September.

The 11,107 square foot masonry structure with a brick and stone exterior will be built on a .796-acre site on the northwest corner of Ohio 747 and Princeton Road.

It is part of a business planned unit development approved in March 2021. Final plans have been approved for a Casey’s General Store with fuel pumps and a Whitewater car wash.

The plan also calls for a restaurant with a drive-thru and office/warehouse space. The PetSuites is replacing the office/warehouse use on land added to the project, totaling 5.82 acres.

“This is not the dog kennel that you and I are used to when we had dogs growing up. People want for their dogs what I want for my kids,’’ said attorney Matt Dolan, representing Bunnell Hill Development.

“This is the highest end of the pet resorts. These dogs get their own little hotel room. They get their own trays. They get their own everything. They’re very well taken care of.”

Three separate outdoor areas for different size pets are included in the project along with individual runs for those that don’t do well with other animals. Pets would be allowed outside to play between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Dogs would not be allowed outside without a human being, Dolan said. He added that the dogs are constantly cleaned to reduce smells. No more than 40 animals would be allowed in the play area at one time.

PetSuites also agreed to a noise level of no more than 55 decibels. The fencing and buffering system has been designed to channel noise upward and away from nearby residents.

This is the 13th PetSuites built in the last five years, Dolan said. Once construction begins, it is expected to take a year to complete.
