June is Audiobooks Appreciation Month; the goal is to increase awareness of the format and promote this legitimate style of reading that is accessible and fun. Browse our audiobook collection located to the right as you enter the main level directly across from the circulation desk. We have children’s audiobooks in the Children’s Room also. Do audiobooks count as summer reading? YES! A great way to pass the time while driving on your next family vacation or road trip to grandma’s house. Also, audiobooks are an effective avenue to immerse hesitant readers into imaginative stories and interesting information. If there is a title you’d like to listen to and we do not have it in our collection no problem, we can check availability at partnering libraries and borrow the audiobook title from another library free of charge.

Do you or someone you know have difficulty reading regular print books or cannot handle printed materials easily due to a physical disability? Audiobooks can be a solution. Cheboygan Public Library is part of the Michigan Braille Talking Book Library (BTBL) network. The Braille Talking Book Library provides library service in audio or braille format to eligible patrons free of charge. As a patron, you have access to digital talking books, audiobooks on a special cartridge and braille books and magazines. This free service is available to people experiencing a variety of conditions that make holding a book or turning pages in a print book difficult, as well as those with age-related vision loss and reading disabilities. Find a “That All May Read” brochure in our lobby, call BTBL at 800-992-9012 or visit michigan.gov/btbl for more information.
