Library Lines: Find fun during spring break from school

Looking for fun local activities for kids during spring break? The Cheboygan Library is the place to be!

Film showing: Join us for Spring Break Fun beginning Tuesday, March 28, for a matinee showing of Columbia Pictures' film "Peter Rabbit." This movie is a live-action, computer-animated comedy based on characters from books by Beatrix Potter. Free popcorn will be provided.

Mario Kart Racing Day: Youth grades 3-12 are invited to race with us 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 29. Play this fast-paced race game on the big screen. Racing is free, snacks will be provided or bring your own. Registration is not required.

Let’s get creative! Create a pool noodle airplane 1-2 p.m. Thursday, March 30. At the same time Friday, March 31, slither on over to the library to make a pool noodle snake. Both craft days are open to youth ages 5 and up. All supplies will be provided. Please register at the library or call 231-627-2381.

Mini Peeps Diorama Kit: A diorama is a replica of a scene or activity, typically a three-dimensional, full-size or miniature model. We supply a mini box and some peeps — you supply the creativity. Registration is not required. The kits can be picked up at the library March 22-April 5. Create a family-friendly or book-themed scene at home and return your decorated diorama to the library by April 7. The dioramas will be on display in the children’s room April 10-16. Visit us, enjoy the creativity, and vote for your favorite!

Book club: Teens grades 8-12 can join us for Take and Read Book Club 3-5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30. This month’s book title is “Sheets” by Brenna Thummler. Book club members receive a free copy of the book. Chicken nuggets will be served. Bring a friend! Sign-up is required, stop by, or call the library at 231-627-2381 to register.

“Lake Monsters of the Great Lakes”: This program is at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6, with Michigan-based author and cryptozoologist Shetan Noir. Her cryptozoology studies (the study of and search for animals and especially legendary animals, such as Sasquatch, usually to evaluate the possibility of their existence) have inspired Shetan’s writing, as she is the head writer of Squatch GQ magazine and has written multiple books including “Mothman and Other Flying Creatures of the Midwest” and Lake Monsters and Odd Creatures of the Great Lakes.” This paranormal exploration of what lurks in the Great Lakes is free to attend.

Hoopla, the new digital service the Cheboygan Library began offering to patrons in February, has been well received. The most popular downloads for February were digital audiobooks, music and eBooks. Comics, movies, television and magazines are also available for download. Hoopla syncs across all your devices and is available to stream immediately. Best of all hoopla is free to patrons with a library card. Find the link to hoopla on our website cheboyganlibrary.org under the digital catalogs tab.
