Library Lines: Singing the good old songs again with musical program

Ready to hear the “Good Old Songs Again?” Then you are in luck. Musical duo Jackie Davidson and Gary Brandt will be visiting the Cheboygan Area Public Library at 6 p.m. June 3.

Lifelong musicians with numerous accomplishments in the industry, the Jackie and Gary team perform across the country sharing an entertaining combination of classic and original folk songs. “Singing the Good Old Songs Again” will prove to be a memorable musical experience.

Another upcoming event taking place at the Cheboygan Area Public Library soon is an indoor Spring-Cleaning Sale 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the gallery on the library’s lower level. This is a one-day only sale of some fun household items and furniture that the library has accumulated over the years. Be sure to stop by the library on Friday, May 27, to find a treasure or two. All proceeds support the library’s programs and services. Plus, the Friends of the Library will host a book sale in the Book Nook, which will be open for special hours on the day of the sale.

Other adventures taking place at the library include the “Oceans of Possibilities” Summer Reading Adventures. Get ready to swim into the summer reading challenge, enjoy ocean-filled activities and workshops, and so much more. The “Oceans of Possibilities” Summer Reading Kick-Off Party will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Cheboygan Area Public Library. Pick up a calendar of summer events to pick out the activities you want to sign up for.

Although the events are free, registration is required for all the workshops so we can make sure to have enough supplies to accommodate all participants. There is not a limit to the number of activities you can participate in — we’d love to see you for everything. — but there are some age parameters to some of them based on the difficulty level of the activities. If younger kiddos want to participate for an older group’s project, they may if they are accompanied by an adult.

At the end of the summer, come bask in the sun with a real mermaid — Mermaid Phantom — during the “Oceans of Possibilities” Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party at 6 p.m. Aug. 15. Not only will Mermaid Phantom make an appearance and read a story, but prizes for the Summer Reading Challenge will be awarded.
