At the library: Santa in Ellettsville; Raise funds, dine out with Muddy Fork Bakery

Monroe County Public Library provides opportunities for local residents to read, learn, connect and create. The downtown library is at 303 E. Kirkwood Ave. and the Ellettsville branch is at 600 W. Temperance St. All events are free of charge. Event funding is provided by the Friends of the Library Foundation.

Preschool storytime

At preschool storytime, stories, songs and rhymes get your preschooler talking, singing and playing with books and words. It’s 10-10:25 a.m. Thursday in Ellettsville meeting room B. For ages 3-6 and caregivers. Please register at mcpl.info/calendar

Anime watch party

Join other fans of “My Hero Academia,” “The Way of the House Husband,” “The Promised Neverland,” and more for a night of anime, crafts, and chatter. For ages 12-19. It’s 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday in The Ground Floor teen space at the downtown library. Drop in.

ASL sign language storytime

Learn targeted vocabulary in American Sign Language through stories, songs, and games! For ages 3–6 and caregivers, but all are welcome. It’s 10:30-11 a.m. Friday in the children’s program room at the downtown library. Register at mcpl.info/calendar

Santa on Sale Street

Downtown Ellettsville will be full of holiday spirit with crafts, snacks, and activities for families to enjoy! Look for Santa to arrive by fire truck at 9:30 a.m., then follow him to the Ellettsville Branch Library. Drop in, meet Santa, and get a free photo and a toy (courtesy of Main Street Inc.). It’s 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Ellettsville branch. At 8 a.m. there will also be a breakfast at the Ellettsville Masonic Lodge at 201 N. Sale St. For all ages. Masks are required. Please note, the library will open 30 minutes early for this event.

Dine Out for the Library at Muddy Fork Bakery

Dine out for the library with Muddy Fork Bakery on Dec. 4, 11, and 18. Place your order online at muddyforkbakery.com by Wednesday of each week for Saturday pickup at numerous locations. Input the coupon code “LIBRARY” with your online order, as Muddy Fork Bakery will donate 50% of your purchase to the Friends of the Library. All-Ages Day at The Ground Floor

Curious about The Ground Floor teen space, but you aren’t a teen? Patrons of all ages are invited to check it out on the second Sunday of the month –– there's a DIY design studio, video games, virtual reality, and more! It’s noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the downtown library. Drop in.

Virtual night owl storytime

Listen to stories, sing songs, do some bedtime yoga, and mindfulness exercises to wind down for the night. Feel free to wear your pajamas so you're ready to be tucked in after the program. For ages birth–6. It’s 6:30–7:30 p.m. Monday on Zoom. Please register at mcpl.info/calendar.

Join in the fun with stories, songs, puppets and more to encourage the development of early literacy skills in young children, using the guidelines from the Every Child Ready to Read program. DIY hot cocoa downtown and Ellettsville

Get ready for winter by learning how to make your own hot cocoa mix! All supplies are provided. For ages 12–19. It’s 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday at both the Ellettsville Teen Space and The Ground Floor teen space at the downtown library. Drop in.

Wonderful 1s and Terrific 2s

Families with kids from infants to age 3 can play, sing, read and talk together with other little ones — then enjoy toy time. It’s 9:30-10:15 a.m. (birth-18 months) and 10:30-11:15 a.m. (18 months-3 years) Wednesday in the children’s program room at the main library. Register at mcpl.info/calendar.
