Licking County Week 5 Games to Watch (plus staff picks)

Newark Catholic at Licking Heights

Newark Catholic enjoyed a successful business trip last Friday, rolling to a 27-9 victory at Fort Loramie as Kyle Langenbrunner caught one of three Miller Hutchison touchdown passes and also intercepted two passes. The Green Wave now travel to Licking Heights, where the program has lost in each of its last three visits.

Deuce Caldwell's four touchdowns allowed Heights to finally shake free of Utica last Friday. The Hornets might have been caught looking ahead, and they are dangerous as evidenced by competitive games with Tri-Valley and Bellefontaine, each 3-1.

Heath at Zanesville

The youthful Bulldogs have little time to lick their wounds from the 35-12 loss to Granville, as they travel to match 2-2 records with a Blue Devils' program that has shellacked them 27-0 and 48-7 the last two seasons.

Both teams are low on seniors, graduated key personnel from 2021 and are led by junior dual threat quarterbacks. Heath's Brayden Bayles has accounted for 990 total yards (642 passing, 348 rushing) and six touchdowns. In Zanesville's two wins, Drew Doyle has a combined 329 yards rushing and four touchdowns, while also throwing four TD passes to speedy senior Xavier Sowers.
