Judges elaborated, "Academic wings were established to echo pathways available to students, with parallel corridors bordering building services in the center, coming together in a central commons space, symbolizing the meshing of many cultures within the facility."

Acknowledging Licking Heights’ increasing enrollment growth, the magazine notes, "Originally planned for 1,500 students, the district anticipated further growth, so core spaces were sized for 1,800 students, allowing for an addition to be built without modifying the program elements that are more-costly to renovate."

The magazine’s spotlight concludes, "A connection was established to the old high school, which is now the middle school, via an internal road which increases safety by reducing traffic on the public roads."

The LHHS design team included Brett Hendricks, Executive Principal – Code & Quality; Byron Manchester, Principal-in-Charge – Project Manager/Designer; John Orsini, Co-Principal – Design Control; and Michael Vala, Project Architect – Specifications & Construction Administration; Licking Heights Superintendent Dr. Philip Wagner, and Treasurer Todd Griffith.
