Liebman's, Jewish deli with a long history in the Bronx, is coming to Westchester

Liebman’s Delicatessen, which New York Magazine dubbed the "Katz's of Riverdale," is opening its first Westchester location in Ardsley sometime in the fall.

This is the first second location for the iconic Jewish deli, which has been in the Bronx since 1953 and is known for its enormous bowls of matzo-ball soup and piled-high-with-meat open-faced sandwiches (hello pastrami and corned beef). Also popular: the housemade knishes, juicy hotdogs, Romanian skirt steak and stuffed cabbage, all rounded out, of course, with crispy pickles and coleslaw.

Corned beef sandwiches are a popular item at Lieb's Deli in Riverdale and will be on the menu when they open in Ardsley this Fall.

New in Westchester: 30 Restaurants opening soon

Yuval Dekel, who moved to Westchester four years ago and owns the Bronx location (he's part of the original family), is opening the space at Addyman Square with business partner — and fellow Westchester resident — Craig Weitz.

The new Liebman's Deli, which is promoted on their website as "Coming Soon," had been two vacant storefronts, one an Italian deli and the other a pizzeria, that are currently being gutted and built out from scratch.

As for why Dekel is suddenly moving his operation north after 70 years, he cites opportunity. That, plus he lives in Westchester. "I appreciate and am witness to a very strong restaurant scene here," he said. "And I see the desire for folks to have new places to go."

The new Liebman's, he said, will be very similar to the current location with the same menu and a similar ambiance. Stay tuned to lohud for updates.
