A baby boy was born at the stroke of midnight in New Haven on New Year’s Day, making him the first baby born in the state in the new year.

The baby, named Elias, was born to Casandra Falcon and Jaime Puntiel of New Haven and is their first child, according to Yale New Haven Hospital. He weighed in at 8 pounds and 7 ounces, the hospital said.

“The family is doing great and getting some well-deserved rest,” said a spokesperson for the hospital.

In Hartford, the first baby of the new year was born at 3:44 a.m., weighing in at 8 pounds and 14 oz and measuring 22 inches long, according to Hartford Healthcare.

Logan Tyler Campbell was born to mother Sarah Campbell, of New Britain, who was overjoyed to welcome her first child.

“This new year brings new life and new beginnings,” said Campbell.

At Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, no babies were born in the first hours of the New Year, but as of about 1 p.m. two mothers were in labor at the hospital, a spokesperson for L+M said.
