Life briefs: Area students recognized for artwork, Galion School honors, barn conference

Artapolooza award results announced

MANSFIELD — Artapolooza 2023 took place March 24-29 at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center in Mansfield. Eighteen local school districts participated in this year’s event: Abraxas School, Ashland County Community Academy, Clearfork Local Schools, Crestline Exempted Village Schools, Crestline St. Joseph, Crestview Local Schools, Discovery School, Foundation Academy, Galion City Schools, GOAL Digital Academy, Highland Local Schools, Lexington Local Schools, Lucas Local Schools, Madison Local Schools, Mansfield City Schools, Mt. Gilead Local Schools, Northmor Local Schools, and Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools.

Samantha Feldhake from Crestview High School took Best of Show with her self-portrait. Mansfield Senior High School earned recognition for Best Display.

Also rounding out the top awards for the High School division were Alayna Longstreth, Goal Digital Academy - first place; Morgan Ladd, Madison Local Schools - second place; and Cameron Johnson, Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools - third place.

Middle School awards include Reagan Maibach, Highland Local Schools - first place; Reyna Barton, Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools - second place; and Miley Coombs, Mansfield Tiger Digital Academy – third place.

An award that had been given in the past was revived for this year, The Rising Star Award. The award was given to E. Daley from Lucas Local Schools, recognizing a student whose work shows exceptional talent and promise of a possible future career in art. The award consists of a selection of art supplies to encourage them to keep pursuing their dreams.

In addition to these awards, 43 Budding Artist award certificates were given out to elementary students showing great potential as young artists, 23 Outstanding Artist award certificates, and 31 Honorable Mention medals were given out as well.

Galion City Schools receive Crawford Partnership award, honor Portrait of a Tiger students

GALION — Galion City Schools received the Crawford Partnership Award for Community Opportunity, a website connecting local businesses with local talent in Northwest Ohio. The award was presented during the Crawford Partnership’s annual meeting on March 10.

On March 21, the Galion Board of Education recognized four students who have consistently demonstrated the Portrait of a Tiger trait — Balanced — throughout March. A Balanced Tiger consciously prioritizes a healthy balance between personal, academic, and emotional demands. They divide their time meaningfully between school activities, friends and family.

Balanced Tigers retain the ability to organize and self-regulate the needs of daily life. The students recognized were: Kylar Hinklin, kindergarten; Kathryn Rinehart, third grade; Maria Wegesin, seventh grade; and Cameron Eckert, 10th grade.

Ohio Barn Conference in Morrow County April 27-29

Friends of Ohio Barns (FOB) board and members invite the public to attend the 22nd annual barn tour and conference in Morrow County April 27-29. The Thursday event is sold out. Registration includes a tour of six barns and lunch on Friday plus Saturday's daylong conference featuring educational presentations, lunch, Barn of the Year awards, member meeting and the silent auction.
