Items made by inmates in the Richland Correctional Institution's knitting program were recently donated to Richland County Children Services.

On June 9, Keisha Allen, deputy Warden at Richland Correctional Institution (RiCI), gave Richland County Children Services four boxes of hand-crafted items from RiCI’s knitting program. The items included teddy bears, blankets, hats and a woman’s sweater. The supervisor of the program is Case Manager Carol Howe, who works with the men who participate in the program.

Allen said the program receives yarn donations from the community, and RiCI also provides yarn to the program.

Audition Boot Camp at Richland Academy of the Arts

Richland Academy of the Arts is offering a two-week Audition Boot Camp that will take the uncertainty out of the auditioning process. Students will hone their audition skills from learning how to select and perform a song, learning and performing a dance combo, choosing and preparing a short monologue, as well as cold reading from a script at an audition. The final class will conclude with a "mock audition."

This class is instructed by RAA’s professional theatre instructors, Maria Beery and Erin Wolford, with accompaniment by piano instructor Alicia Porter. Beery spent 10 years in New York City training, performing, and teaching with the Atlantic Acting School and the Jade McCarty Studio. Wolford is a BFA Musical Theatre and Dance graduate from West Virginia Wesleyan College with over 10 years of professional performance experience and 10 years of teaching experience.

The Audition Boot Camp will be offered 2-3 p.m. weekdays from July 17-27 with a final showing on July 27. To register, go to richlandacademy.com or call 419-522-8224.
