The Mansfield Men’s Garden Club recently honored 14 recipients of the club’s 2022 Beautification Awards. The winners in the Residential, Commercial/Civic and Member categories were recently honored at a dinner. They are:

Richland County Young Marines recruiting youth and adults

Local adults and youth are invited to join the Richland County Young Marines in Mansfield. Units are led by dedicated adult volunteers who mentor and guide youth members in the areas of leadership, community service, honoring veterans, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The Young Marines, a national nonprofit, is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, age 8 through high school graduation. The Richland County Young Marines serves Mansfield and the surrounding area. The adult staff are all volunteers and consist of members from all different professions within the community and veterans.

In the Richland County Young Marines, youth receive opportunities to build their pride and leadership skills through such challenging events as: rappelling; physical fitness training; camping; close order drill; swimming; land navigation; public speaking opportunities, and many other activities. They get opportunities to earn promotions and ribbons through their achievements as they develop their skills. Also, the Young Marines participate in national schools, adventures and encampments with other units, and there are travel opportunities.

Richland Pregnancy Services to host gala

Richland Pregnancy Services is celebrating 35 years and more than 11,000 lives impacted by their ministry at their annual fundraising gala, set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center. This year’s featured speaker will be Steventhen Holland, a recording artist and Founder of Broken Not Dead Ministries. Steventhen will be sharing his inspiring story that allows him to connect to the foster and adopted child, as well as the family at large.

There is no cost to attend, however reservations are required and may be secured by visiting friendsofrichlandpregnancy.com/events/gala.

Richland Pregnancy Services offers free pregnancy testing and limited ultrasounds, STD/STI testing, mom-to-mom and dad-to-dad mentoring, parenting classes and material support through the RPS Boutique. RPS provides services at two locations including its main office at 1560 W. Fourth St. and a satellite office at the OSU/NC State campus.

ASHLAND — Ashland University has been named a “Best College” again and ranked among the top half of Regional Universities (Midwest) by the U.S. News & World Report’s college rankings, released Monday. Ashland also landed highly on four of the publication’s distinctive lists.

Ashland tied for 82nd among 166 “Best Colleges” in the Regional Universities — Midwest category. Within the state of Ohio, Ashland was one of 13 private universities to rank among the top half of the Midwest.

Ashland particularly stood out in several of U.S. News’ individual categories, including a trio of top-50 ratings among the Midwest Region: No. 38 in “Best Colleges for Veterans;" No. 49 in “Top Performers on Social Mobility;” and No. 50 in “Best Value Schools."

Nationally, Ashland was recognized for its nursing education. Its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program within the Dwight Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences received a “Best College” distinction, ranking among the top-500 in the U.S. after averaging a top score from surveys of leading academics and officials at nursing schools and departments.

Local students win prestigious Ashbrook Scholar Award

ASHLAND — The Ashbrook Scholar Program is a rigorous liberal arts program for students studying politics, history or economics at Ashland University that includes an annual scholarship awarded solely on merit to the most promising students. The following students in the greater Mansfield area have been awarded a position in the Ashbrook Scholar Program at the Ashbrook Center in Ashland: Braeden Geist, home school; Kaleb Hollar, Clear Fork High School; Alena Kalashnik, Mansfield Christian School; Lainey Kathrein, Lexington High School; Chloe Kovinchick, Lexington High School; Emma Maguire, Galion High School; Rhyele Salser, Crestview High School; Nathan Slater, Ontario High School; and Oliver Wagner, Shelby High School.

The Ashbrook Center is a nationally recognized nonprofit academic center that seeks to educate Americans on the history and Founding principles of their country through the direct study of primary source documents. Its Ashbrook Scholars are taught by some of the best history and government professors in the nation and often receive the opportunity to meet former presidents, U.S. Supreme Court justices, and other high-profile dignitaries and intellectuals who visit the Center.
