NORTH ROBINSON — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Noah McKibben of Colonel Crawford High School is a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winner. Only 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from among 16,000 finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. Winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

McKibben will leave Colonel Crawford and the North Central State College Sci-Med Program with 82 CCP credits, a 35 ACT score and 4.0 GPA. He is a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, and baseball) who has received all-league N10 honors in each varsity sport he has played. He also has been involved in 4-H, Academic Challenge, math league, Leo Club, National Honor Society, Young Life and in his local church.

Sunrise announces RISE FFA career program recipients

FREMONT — Sunrise Cooperative announced its 2022 RISE FFA Career Program recipients. Slated to join Sunrise as full-time employees following graduation are Chris Hiler from Buckeye Central FFA, Kayla Cummins from Indian Lake -OHP FFA, Vivian Barnett of Willard FFA, along with Blade Hale and Gavin Sexton from South Central FFA.

The five members of the 2022 class will begin work at Sunrise in June and work their way through the RISE FFA Career Program, otherwise referred to as Sunrise University. Over the next four years, \new hires will gain hands-on, real-life job experiences, while learning all facets of the cooperative.

In addition to full-time employment, Cummins was selected as the top recipient and will receive a 2021 Jeep Gladiator the 2021-2022 Ohio FFA, which President Jacob Zajkowski drove during his tenure, as a signing bonus. Along with her top honor, she earned a $1,000 chapter donation from Sunrise.

Sunrise is honored to present the students' FFA chapters with a $250 donation.

Candidates for the RISE FFA Career Program needed to be a 2022 high school graduate and active with the FFA chapter. They had to submit an application, along with an essay on how the FFA has prepared you for a career with Sunrise.

2022 Elgin High School alumni banquet in June

The eighth annual Elgin Alumni Banquet, using the Hooray for Hollywood theme, is scheduled for June 25 in the cafetorium of the Elgin K-12 building. The evening will begin with a social time at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6. Each meal will feature apple bourbon chicken and marsala steak medallions, salad, scalloped potatoes, corn casserole, rolls, fruit pies. The program will begin at 7 p.m. with additional social time to follow. Attendees are asked to wear their favorite Hollywood attire.

Elgin alumni, former and current faculty, administrators, staff and graduates from former community schools Green Camp, LaRue, New Bloomington and Prospect are invited to attend. Honored classes to be recognized during the program include the classes of 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982,1987,1992,1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022.

The cost for the meal is $24. Reservations must be received by June 17. Go to elginalumni.org to submit a reservation using PayPal for payment. Or download the form from the website and send the reservation to Gwyn Trihaft McKinniss, 3151 Codding Road., La Rue 43332. Checks should be made payable to Elgin Alumni Association.

Proceeds benefit the EAA Scholarship Fund. Anyone who cannot attend the banquet and would like to make a donation to the Elgin Scholarship Fund, may send a check payable to Elgin Alumni Association but designate it for the EAA Scholarship Fund.
