After Life fans realise a new S3 character has actually been in the show before
After Life season 3 has got us officially hooked, and it's safe to say the show has been a real emotional rollercoaster for viewers.
Still, among all the tears, there are a fair few surprises to be found in the series, including the TikTok superfan who Ricky Gervais cast in a role. Now, fans have spotted another easy-to-miss detail from the new season, discovering that one S3 character has actually appeared in the show before.
Series three of After Life sees the arrival of new character Coleen (played by Kath Hughes), who enters the show as an intern working at Tony's newspaper. While it seems like Coleen is a brand new addition the show, observant fans have spotted that she in fact appeared in After Life right at the beginning, back in the first episode of season one.
Cast your mind back to the first series, and you'll remember one scene which saw Tony shopping for dog food in his local supermarket. We saw him ask one of the shop workers where to find it, with the woman offering the hilarious blunt response, "It's by the cat food". Viewers then watched the pair continuing on with a semi-awkward back and forth about tinned goods, finishing with Tony sarcastically telling the unnamed worker (who was scanning products on the floor), "Don't get up."
Seemed insignificant, right? Well, it turns out the supermarket worker in question is actually back for season three, in the form of Coleen.
Fans shared their discovery of the detail on Twitter, with one writing, "Just noticed Coleen is from series 1 when he's asking where the dog food is."

What's more, Coleen's previous job at the supermarket is subtly referenced in new episodes, with the intern telling Tony, "I worked my way up to management in my old job. [I worked] at the mini-mart, but it went bust during the pandemic so I’ve had to take anything, even though the money’s s**t and I don’t know what I’m doing."
We're glad Coleen's back!
