'Life On Mars' co-creator teases return for 'Final Chapter'

The co-creator of Life On Mars has hinted that the hit show is poised to return for a third series.

The time travel police drama starring John Simm and Philip Glenister wrapped in 2007 after two award-winning series.

But Matthew Graham, one of those behind the programme, teased a return in a series of posts on Twitter.

He said: “We’d never make another Mars unless we really had something to say and could push the envelope all over again.

“Finally, we have.”

He followed it up with more messages saying that the “Final Chapter” was likely to be a four or five episode series and that it would be set in Manchester and in London.

Some fans suspected Graham’s tweets were an April Fools’ Day joke, but he later insisted it was “for real”.

He posted: “Can I say again to all including @RadioTimes who are suggesting that a final instalment of #LifeOnMars was an April Fool.

“1 - you don't play an April Fool after midday.

“2 - I hate April Fool's jokes. It's for real. #LifeOnMarsLive.”

A BBC source said: "While there are no firm plans at this stage Life On Mars was a much-loved BBC show and we'd never say never to more!"

Life On Mars started in 2006 and aired for two series.

The show starred Simm as detective Sam Tyler, who is involved in a car crash in 2006 and then wakes up in 1970s Manchester.

Glenister played foul-mouthed detective Gene Hunt.

The series also spawned a spin off called Ashes To Ashes, featuring Glenister’s DCI Hunt and Bodyguard star Keeley Hawes.
