A life of public service: Norwich Township Trustee Larry Earman dies at 74

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 4 at Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St., for Larry Joseph Earman, 74, of Hilliard, a sitting Norwich Township Trustee who died May 29.

Earman was first elected to the Norwich Township Board of Trustees in 2005 and was re-elected to a fifth term last year.

He also served as a member of the Hilliard Board of Education from 1985-1991.

Earman was a founding partner of Earman and Wood CPAs and a former president and treasurer of the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce.

Earman’s past civic contributions to the Hilliard community also included that of president of the Hilliard Education Foundation, treasurer of the Hilliard Hollyfest Foundation, administrative board president of Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church, director of the Franklin County Fair Board, treasurer of the Ohio Pony of Americas Club and a member of Hilliard Kiwanis Club.

Chuck Buck, a fellow Norwich Trustee, said Earman "cared greatly for the Hilliard community and its people. He will be greatly missed."

Libby Gierach, president and CEO of the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce, said Earman was instrumental in the chamber's office relocating into Old Hilliard.

"His financial expertise as our treasurer was invaluable. He was also the treasurer of the Hollyfest Scholarship Foundation, where he guided the investments to be endowed so scholarships could be given to graduates of Hilliard City Schools," Gierach said.

Earman is preceded in death by parents, Stanley Earman and Doris Schleiger.

Earman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda, and daughters, Lisa (Tim) Wood and Laura (Stephen) Galbreath; grandchildren, Emma and Sydney Wood, Madeleine and Griffin Galbreath; mother-in-law, Doris Provost; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Kaye Provost, Charles and Deb Provost; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. June 3 at the Tidd family Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 4 prior to interment at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Earman’s death creates a vacancy on the Norwich Board of Trustees for which an appointment must be made within 30 days to fill the unexpired term.
