‘Life saving’ donations needed for neglected horses seized in Sanger by deputies
The Fresno County Humane Society and Central California SPCA has put out a call for donations following the seizure of four horses in Sanger.
The horses were taken by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, on suspicion that they were being neglected. They were transported to the Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CCSPCA) where they are expected to remain under care for the foreseeable future.
“These horses suffered for far too long because of outside irresponsibility,” the organization said in a statement Monday.
The group said it is “focused on the health and rehabilitation of the horses” and asked the public for “life saving donations” to help with medical expenses, feed and ongoing daily needs for the horses.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate and has not released details on the case, though neighbors reported to KMPH that at the deputies and Fresno County Animal Control were at the property, described as a rehab, for several hours Friday.
Officers have overseen and investigated more than 400 cases of neglect/cruelty in Fresno County in the last fiscal year, according to the CCSPCA. This follows an uptick in cases, especially among horses, since 2020. Humane officers seized seven abused and neglected horses throughout Fresno County in a span of 60 days in 2021 and 2022. Ten horses were seized from an owner in December.
